In 1971, Mercedes-Benz introduced the all-new Type R107 350SL as the replacement for its long-running 230/350/280SL sporting convertible models. Design was executed by Bruno Sacco, who was also responsible for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedans of the 1970s. Somewhat larger and more rounded than its predecessors, the new SL was based upon a steel unibody structure and featured a more luxuriously appointed interior. As expected, Mercedes-Benz constantly refined and updated the R107, which remained in production for nearly 20 years along five variants.   

Powered by a 5.6-liter V-8 engine, developing 227 horsepower and 279 pounds-feet of torque, the 560SL was the ultimate expression of the R107 series, available from 1985 through 1989.
