From inception, France?s Citron has produced some of the most innovative and unique automobiles ever produced, from the front-drive Traction Avant in the 1930s to the advanced DS series and likely the marque's finest, the SM (S?rie Maserati). Developed following the Citron-Maserati merger of 1968, the SM featured Citroen's renowned front-drive chassis and super-smooth hydropneumatic suspension, with power delivered by a DOHC Maserati V-6 engine. A true Grand Touring car capable of fast transcontinental dashes or high-speed executive commutes, the purposefully luxurious SM remains iconic today. According to marque experts, 12,920 were produced from 1970 through 1975, including a handful of coachbuilt versions by Chapron. Just 1,200 were imported new to North America.
