EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF ICONIC 1960S GM DESIGN
Initially named "La Salle II," the Riviera was Buick’s image and engineering leader from 1963 through 1993 and again from 1995 to 1999. Competing directly with Ford's Thunderbird in the personal luxury market, the Riviera was a true "gentleman’s muscle car," exemplified by the sleekly restyled 1966-67 models. Somewhat larger with a new 119-inch wheelbase chassis, the updated Riviera featured a lower, longer and wider look with a new fastback roofline and clean profile with the former vent widows replaced by new flow-through ventilation.
The well-equipped Riviera's many standard features included power brakes and steering, an automatic transmission, tilt steering, and dual exhaust. Richly appointed, fully carpeted interiors included top-quality upholstery in a wide array of color combinations. In short, the Riviera was Buick's flagship model for most of the 1960s and well beyond.
Buick's famed 425 cubic-inch "Nailhead" V-8 engine was replaced by a new and improved 430 cubic-inch V-8 for 1967, delivering 360 factory-rated horsepower with a standard Rochester Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor underneath a distinctive red-finished, twin-inlet air cleaner housing. Known to enthusiasts today as the "Star Wars" unit for its similarity to the movie spacecraft of the latter 1970s, the Riviera's special 1967-only air cleaner remains popular with hot rodders and muscle car enthusiasts today.
This very attractive Flint, Michigan-built 1967 Buick Riviera is highly equipped and optioned, as expected, including its floor-shifted Super Turbine 400 3-speed automatic transmission, floor console, factory radio and optional power antenna, factory air conditioning, bucket front seats with headrests, vinul top, seat belts, and correct and compete set of chrome Buick Road Wheels, including correctly finished Grey inserts and center caps, dual exhaust, and Positraction limited-slip rear axle. Fully sorted, serviced, and detailed, this 1967 Buick Riviera GS is an excellent example of iconic GM design, styling, and engineering from the 1960s.
